Frequently Asked Questions
How does buying a registration from MINX PLATES work?
Once you place an order for your chosen plate, our team gets to work on securing the registration.
Once our team secures the registration plate, the transaction goes through and you will be notified by email that the process has commenced.
If we cannot secure the registration, any payment holds will be returned back to the same card and you will be notified by email.
Once we've secured the registration, we will get to work on transferring it over to you.
Our process of transfer is to assign the plate directly to a car you own.
We highly advise you have a car available to transfer the number plate to.
How long does it take to transfer the plate to me?
Some registrations may take longer to transfer than others.
This may be the case when we are working with individual sellers and waiting on information to be sent over to us.
Once we have confirmed the registration is available and the transfer process has commenced, you should expect at least 10-16 days for you to receive the updated V5 logbook with the registration on.
Can I put the physical plates on to my vehicle once I've purchased the plate?
No, you must wait for the V5 logbook with the registration assigned to arrive. Only then should you proceed to put the physical plates on.
It is your responsibility to inform your insurance company that you have updated your registration on your vehicle.
Can I send the registration back to you for a refund?
We do not offer any refunds or exchanges.
Registration plates come under the 'personalised goods' category and are not eligible for any returns or exchanges.
Please refer to our refund policy.
Do I permanently own the registration once I purchase it?
Yes, you will have the sole responsibility and ownership of the registration plate once it has been purchased.
It is your responsibility to renew the registration every 10 years. This is a requirement by the DVLA. More information about this can be found here.
What if I want to sell my car but keep this registration?
Yes, that is possible. Before selling the vehicle you must remove the physical plates and use the online DVLA service to re-assign the vehicles original registration number back on. More information on this can be found here.
You should also inform your insurance company that you have put the original registration number back on before proceeding to sell the vehicle.
